360 MALL hosts Teddy Bear Hospital to Relieve Children’s Anxiety of Doctors and Hospitals

Educational program Organized by Kuwait University student simulates clinical experience to help children overcome fear

12Kuwait: 360 MALL – Tamdeen Group’s iconic shopping mall – hosted a three-day Teddy Bear Hospital Kuwait, a local version of the international project, whose aim is to reduce childhood anxiety about medical environments, procedures and professionals, through a fun project.

Held at the mall’s main atrium for children and families, Teddy Bear Hospital Kuwait, was organized by a team of medical students from Kuwait University. Children attended with their teddy bears and helped treat their teddies in an environment simulated to depict a hospital environment, which was overseen by over 300 volunteers of medical students from Kuwait University.

Popularly known as the ‘White Coat Syndrome’, fear of medical environments is an increasing issue with the young population. It is a phenomenon in which patients exhibit a blood pressure level above the normal range, in a clinical setting, due to anxiety while they don’t experience it in other settings.

This educational and enlightening journey organized at 360 MALL, saw children in the role of doctors and enabled them to overcome their fear of the ‘White Coat Syndrome’ through symbolic clinical play of taking their teddy for a dummy X-ray, teddy examination, giving them injections, among other treatments.
