Presented by Ooredoo Business, Cyber Sense World, the most eagerly awaited cyber security event in Oman, commenced yesterday at the Crowne Plaza in Muscat, Oman. Organized by UMS Conferences, the event is supported by ITA Oman, Oman National CERT, IGSDA UAE and ISSA Egypt. The first day witnessed the participation of over 100 delegates from leading companies in the region.
The two-day event opened with a keynote address by Eng. Badar Ali Said Al Salehi, DG Oman National CERT, Head ITU Cyber Security Centre, Oman Cert, ITU, Oman. This was followed by a session termed “NextGen DDOS – Are you Prepared?” conducted by Ahmed Hassan Al-Lawati, Section Head – Information Security, Ooredoo.
The morning sessions included presentations on how to adopt a methodical approach to a chaotic world, NATO countries and cyber security and cyber compliance and regulators. These were presented by Abubakar Latif – Cyber Security Advisor, Telecom Regulatory Authority, UAE; Morabito Giuseppe – Member of the IGSDA & NATO Defence College Foundation (NDCF), Rome and Johan Obdala – President, International Organization for Security and Intelligence, Canada, respectively.
The morning sessions also included a panel discussion on “Effective Cyber Security: Progressing from Hazards to Progressive Opportunity.” The panel included Ranjith Murali – Cyber Security Specialist, UAE, Morabito Giuseppe and Abubakar Latif.
Post-lunch sessions included presentations on cloud security and the dark web by Yazad Khandhadia – Cyber Security Specialist, UAE and Ranjith Murali.
Day one saw key industry experts sharing insights about the challenges, best practices and latest technologies for the industry.
Today, the second day of the forum, will open with a presentation on “The Enterprise Immune System: Using Machine Learning for Next-Generation Cyber Defense” by Michael D’Arcy – Commercial Director, Darktrace, UK. Darktrace is participating in the event as the Silver Sponsor.
It will be followed by sessions on Beyond Digital Third Party Risk Management, Social Networking and The Impact of IoT and Big Data. Faris Al-Kharusi, Head of Business Excellence – Real Time Operations & Smart Fields, PDO, Oman; Roland Abi Najem – IT & Digital Marketing Consultant – Ministry of Information, Kuwait and Yaqoob Al-Hattali, IT- Manager at ASAAS, Oman will be sharing their expertise on these topics.
Post-lunch sessions will also feature a panel discussion on “Cyber Skills Gap and Personnel Management”. The panel will include Robert Katz – Director, Innovation Intelligence Institute, Washington DC, USA, Ranjith Murali, Abubakar Latif and Faris Al-Kharusi.
The second day of the event will continue to provide valuable insights from industry experts on cyber security, and will focus on how to spread cyber awareness in the region.
