Four-year degree offers specializations in BIM and sustainable design
Dubai, UAE: Canadian University Dubai (CUD) has announced the launch of a new Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Studies to introduce students to the dynamic world of design within a four-year program. Offering specializations in building information modelling (BIM) and sustainable design, the degree is a pre-professional qualification that prepares students for further study to complete their license to practice architecture.
Building on the University’s goal to provide a gateway to Canadian education and employment, the program is specifically designed for students who are aiming to pursue a professional architectural career in Canada. On completion of the program, graduates can transfer to Canada to pursue a Master’s degree in Architecture and satisfy the professional requirements set by the industry’s Canadian authorities.
Based in the design capital of the Middle East, the program will also offer students the opportunity to tap into the career opportunities within the region. For those looking to stay and practice in the UAE, there is the option to transfer to CUD’s Bachelor of Architecture program after successful completion of year three, or to supplement the program with a two year Master’s degree in Architecture.
The curriculum of the Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies has been developed to address the emerging trends within the design industry. Sustainability has become one of the central pillars of modern architecture, while BIM has emerged as the industry standard solution to support efficiency in both resource and lifecycle management of construction projects.
Speaking about the new program, Dr. Hamoud Dekkiche, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Architecture & Interior Design said, “CUD’s Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies is a program that allows students to explore the architecture industry with a view to developing a career in professional design regionally or internationally. We offer an exciting, interactive curriculum set in state-of-the-art studios and labs, and our links with local industry ensure that students gain experience of real-world projects as part of their studies.
“With the opportunity to specialize in one of two technical, industry-relevant disciplines, it will enable graduates of the program to respond to the future demands among employers for experts in BIM or sustainable design, as well as providing them with the relevant foundations to pursue the licensure required to practice as a professional architect.”
The program is now open for applications for the Fall 2021 semester.
