Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Fakih IVF has successfully concluded the seventh edition of its UAE Reproductive Symposium accredited by the Dubai Health Authority. During the symposium, Fakih IVF welcomed fertility experts from across the globe to share and discuss the latest techniques, innovations and trends in the field of reproductive medicine.

This year’s agenda featured keynote speeches from Dr Sue Hammoud, who provided a deep dive into the cellular and molecular aspects of spermatogenesis, and Professor Robert Rebar, who shared his vast experience in common and complex reproductive disorders such as premature ovarian failure and functional hypothalamic amenorrhea. Other speakers included Dr. Heather Gibson Huddleston, a world expert in polycystic ovarian syndrome who touched on fertility treatment of PCOS and other less-studied aspects of this disorder such as depression, anxiety and eating disorders, and Dr. Hugh Taylor from Yale University, who discussed novel aspects in the diagnosis and care for patients with endometriosis. Along similar lines, Professor Howard Sharp tackled the complex topic of diagnosis and management of pelvic pain in reproductive age females.
Reproductive immunology and its relation to pregnancy health were discussed with Dr. Zeynep Alpay-Savasan from Michigan, while Dr. Ghassan Lotfi walked participants through progesterone in threatened and recurrent miscarriages, and Dr. Kirtly Parker Jones explored the care and management of women undergoing menopause. Dr. Ayman Al-Hendy and Professor William Catherino shared their latest work on the treatment of uterine fibroids and Dr. Atsushi Tanaka, Dr. James Hotaling, Dr. Rupin Shah and Dr. Hussein Kandil spoke about the newest advances and understanding in treating male infertility.
A highlight of the symposium was a series of presentations on preimplantation genetic screening (PGS), a tool that promises to increase the success of IVF and reduce miscarriage rates, and has uncovered a high frequency of mosaicism in human embryos. Dr. Santiogo Munne shared his expertise in PGS and showed how it can serve as a quality control for the lab, Dr. Alpesh Doshi discussed embryology aspects in PGD and PGS, and Ms. Russias shed light on VeriSeq PGS by Illumina.
To return to the IVF roots of the symposium, Professor Paul Devroy shared the latest on an OHSS free clinic through IVF segmentation and adequate luteal phase supplementation for Luprolide trigger cycles, while Professor Mohamad Abulghar revisited an age-old debate regarding the transfer of blastocyst versus cleavage stage embryos. Also on the topic of IVF, Dr. Fady Sharara spoke about IVF in the US, Dr. Elias Dahdouh gave tips and tricks in random start ovarian stimulation, Professor Julia Koloda discussed triggering ovulation and luteal phase support in the IVF cycle, and Dr. Monikaa Chawla explained why oocyte numbers matters in IVF. Finally, Dr. Sonia Hassan, a leading expert in preterm birth, shared her insights on prevention of preterm labour.
