Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum reviews Empower’s global leadership in district cooling during his visit to Empower’s stand at WETEX 2021

Dubai, UAE: His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum visited the pavilion of Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling service provider, at the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2021), which is being held in the Dubai Exhibition Centre at the site of the global event Expo 2020 in Dubai. During the visit, His Highness was briefed on the qualitative developments of Empower’s various projects and its adoption of innovative technologies in consolidating company’s global leadership in the district cooling industry as the world’s largest service provider.

His Highness listened to a detailed explanation by Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, about company’s achievements, most notably the drivers of sustainable financial performance pursued by Empower, which resulted in an year-over-year growth of 3.4% in its profits, amounting to AED 901 million in 2020. His Highness was also informed about the prestigious international position that the company has occupied and qualified to consolidate its global leadership in the industry this year by concluding two acquisition deals for the district cooling operations of Nakheel and Meydan districts, with a total value and future investments of AED 2.5 billion, raising Empower’s total capacity to 1,853,000 refrigeration tons (RT) at the end of 2021 to serve 1,633 buildings in different sectors, the number of customers to 160,000 and Empower’s market share to 79.5% in Dubai.

His Highness was also briefed on the completed as well as the upcoming projects of Empower, including the new district cooling plants and expansions of the distribution network, which aim to keep pace with the development of district cooling infrastructure to provide the environmentally friendly cooling services to number of new projects in the city. His Highness viewed a presentation on company’s plans and aspirations for the current time, led by the qualitative leap in utilizing advanced technologies to provide energy efficient district cooling services

His Highness listened to a briefing by Bin Shafar on the international recognition that Empower received at the IDEA 2021 Conference and Trade Show, which was concluded in the United States of America last week, with a participation of more than 2,400 experts from 30 different countries, where Empower won two gold awards for its leadership in promoting the district cooling industry globally, encouraging decision makers to adopt district cooling solutions, and implementing best integrated green practices.
