Center treats 1,344,453 pest-infested sites across Abu Dhabi Emirate

Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Pest Control Projects Department at Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center (Tadweer) carried out an intensive pest control drive across all regions of Abu Dhabi Emirate in 2021, achieving significant results in preventing pest proliferation and ensuring public health.

As part of the drive, the specialized teams from the Department stepped up control efforts to ensure that the pest proliferation rates in all targeted areas are kept under permissible limits.

In the first quarter of 2021, the team executed 24,554 service requests and treated 1,344,453 pest-infested sites across the emirate.

The Center’s action plan involved controlling pests and capturing stray animals prior to the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr.

The Center also conducted pest survey and control operations in various places throughout the emirate, especially areas frequented by public such as mosques, government slaughterhouses, public parks, markets and residential areas.

Targeting all types of pests, especially mosquitoes, flies, rodents, cockroaches and ants, and stray animals such as cats and dogs, the control drive articulated Tadweer’s sustained efforts to reduce the hazards of pests and stray animals, maintain the highest standards of public health and safety across the emirate, and ensure its aesthetic appeal.

The Pest Control Projects Department at Tadweer operates according to an integrated action plan that aims to control all potential pest harborage sites. It steps up control efforts in seasons that see a surge in pest proliferation due to changing weather conditions across the emirate.

Using effective pesticides approved by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Tadweer’s dedicated team apply global best practices and the latest technologies in its pest control operations to ensure that no harm is caused to public health and environment in all targeted areas.

Engineer Mohammed Mahmoud Al Marzouqi, Pest Control Projects Director at Tadweer, said: “Tadweer’s pest control efforts during the first quarter of 2021 have delivered many positive results and remarkable achievements. This demonstrates the efficiency of our administrative and field operation plans that incorporate the latest practices in pest control domain, contributing to the objectives of Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.

“The Pest Control Projects Department at Tadweer deals with every request it receives with utmost efficiency and professionalism, reiterating the Center’s keenness in promptly handling public requests to create a clean, healthy, safe and sustainable environment for all.

“Treating such a high number of pest-infested sites across Abu Dhabi validates our ability to deal with various environmental and health challenges faced by our operations despite the unprecedented disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic globally. At Tadweer, we continually seek to bolster our measures to protect the society from any environmental and health risks associated with our pest control drive.

“People can request pest control services by calling Abu Dhabi Government Contact Center 800 555 and report any cases of infestation by pests such as flies, mosquitoes, and rodents. Our teams are best-equipped to quickly respond to such requests by offering best-in-class services to the members of community.

“At Tadweer, we realize the importance of elevating community awareness about the safe and proper pest control measures as well as the places that create a favorable environment for pest breeding, such as stagnant water in fountains, boats, agricultural pots, swimming pools and irrigation ponds. Likewise, stagnant water bodies created by leakage from pipes, broken taps, etc are ideal breeding grounds for pests,” Al Marzouqi added.
