Abu Dhabi, UAE – August 2026 – SEHA, a subsidiary of PureHealth and one of the UAE’s largest healthcare networks, has successfully managed a life-threatening paediatric medical emergency at SEHA’s Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), where doctors rapidly diagnosed and treated a nine-month-old patient with a critically high white blood cell count.
The infant, Sarah, was brought to SEHA’s SKMC showing signs of severe pallor. Urgent tests revealed a rare and dangerous condition that requires immediate medical attention to prevent serious complications.
Recognising the urgency of the situation, specialists across Paediatric Emergency, the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Paediatric Nephrology, and Paediatric Oncology quickly came together to assess and stabilise Sarah. Working closely and efficiently, the team confirmed the diagnosis, developed a treatment plan, and began therapy all on the same day of admission.
Dr. Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Consultant Pediatric Hematologist and Oncologist at SEHA Sheikh Khalifa Medical City said: “Sarah arrived in a very critical condition, with an extremely high white blood cell count requiring immediate intervention. Thanks to the swift collaboration of our teams, we were able to confirm the diagnosis and begin treatment on the same day. She responded well and is now continuing chemotherapy while progressing according to protocol.
This case highlights the strength of SEHA’s multidisciplinary paediatric care at SKMC and underscores the importance of families seeking medical attention early if they notice concerning symptoms. SEHA remains committed to providing world-class paediatric care, advanced diagnostics, and strong support for patients and their families in Abu Dhabi and across the UAE.
