Dubai, UAE: Victoria’s dynamic industry capability, exciting racing carnivals, premium produce and famed café culture took centre stage at the recent Expo 2020 Dubai, showcasing the many trade and tourist opportunities available in the Australian state.
During Expo, the Victorian Government hosted more than 300 delegates including Victorian businesses, business partners in the MEA region, stakeholders and federal government officials.
The activations celebrated the best of Victoria, including the Melbourne Cup, the region’s world-class higher education facilities and its reputation as one of the best places to do business in Australia. A live barista session and pop-up by popular Melbourne Lane Café has also inspired talks to open a permanent Melbourne café fixture in the UAE.
The events also provided the opportunity to deliver a very important message – Victoria is open for business and ready to welcome visitors back to its shores.
Victoria has a strong history in the region with the Victorian Government Trade and Investment (VGTI) office in Dubai recently celebrating 25 years. Victoria was the first Australian state to focus its attention on trade and investment opportunities with the region after opening the Dubai office in 1997.
Gönül Serbest CEO of Global Victoria said Victoria’s strong presence at Expo 2020 Dubai reflects the state’s long standing and ongoing commitment to the Middle East region.
“Dubai and Victoria will continue to be closely connected through our mutual interests in trade, tourism, major events and education,” Ms Serbest said.
Ms Serbest said the VGTI is an important conduit for businesses looking to trade between the two regions, helping to facilitate opportunities.
“We proudly serve as the gateway to global economies and communities, opening the world to Victorian businesses and welcoming the business world and international students to Victoria,” Ms Serbest said.
“It’s our people and networks that make the difference and inspire global possibilities for business both in Victoria and the UAE.”
Victoria has acknowledged the following people who have helped to take Victoria to the world during Expo 2020 Dubai:
Victorian Government Trade and Investment Office
The VGTI Office for the Middle East, Africa, and Turkey was established in 1997 by the State Government of Victoria to promote Victorian exports of products and services into the MEA region and attract inward investment and tourism into Victoria, Australia. During this period, the VGTI Office has been instrumental in facilitating the successful introduction of many Victorian companies to key buyers, investors and business leaders across the region through official government trade missions and dedicated export programs.
