Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – September 12, 2026

Desert Technologies (DT), a Saudi leader in clean energy, smart infrastructure, industrial technologies, and advanced digital and engineering capabilities, is continuing to expand the use of artificial intelligence (AI) across its businesses and projects, building on years of accumulated expertise and practical applications developed in engineering, operations, digital analytics, and process automation.

The company is now entering a new phase in the expansion and deeper integration of AI across its various business sectors and operations. This evolution further strengthens its business model, which combines its established expertise in clean energy and smart infrastructure, while positioning AI and advanced technologies as key enablers of business development, operational efficiency, and innovation. The approach reinforces DT’s position as a leading Saudi company leveraging advanced technologies to better serve its clients across various industries.

Eng. Albaraa Althagafi, Chief Technology and AI Officer at Desert Technologies, said: “From the early stages of the development of Desert Technologies’ business, innovation and the adoption of advanced technologies have been an integral part of our vision for developing our activities in the energy sector. Artificial intelligence has been part of this journey alongside the evolution of our technological and engineering capabilities. Over the past several years, we have made significant progress in applying AI technologies across a number of our businesses and operations, and we are now working to broaden and deepen this approach, making AI a more integrated and established component of our business ecosystem and of the way we develop, operate, and improve the efficiency of energy projects and support related decision-making.”

He added: “We continue to deploy AI across areas including engineering and design, data analytics, digital delivery, solution development, operations, and maintenance, while expanding these applications and connecting them through a more integrated ecosystem that makes greater use of the data and accumulated expertise within the company. This represents a new step in our technological evolution, enhancing operational efficiency, strengthening our capacity for innovation, and supporting the development of more sustainable and effective solutions in the energy sector”.

In engineering, Desert Technologies developed in-house capabilities to automate the analysis of tenders and contracts using locally hosted language models integrated with optical character recognition (OCR) technologies in both Arabic and English. These capabilities also support the extraction of technical information from solar energy project drawings, as well as the development of tools for cable sizing, grounding-system design and calculations, electrical protection, short-circuit studies, and energy-yield analysis.

These tools also include capabilities for automated verification of compliance with engineering standards and specifications, including the Saudi Building Code (SBC), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards, and the National Electrical Code (NEC). This contributes to improving the speed and accuracy of design activities.

As part of its digital transformation, DT is also using AI-assisted software development tools to accelerate the development of internal digital solutions, including applications, dashboards, reporting systems, and its Invoice Tracker platform. The company is continuing to develop machine-learning applications for forecasting, data analysis, and decision support.

In the clean energy sector, Desert Technologies is using AI to analyze real-time operational data, monitor performance indicators, and identify underperforming assets. Its applications also include predictive maintenance, the detection of unusual patterns in inverter and battery-string data, and intelligent diagnostic systems that classify faults and prioritize response actions. In addition, the company is deploying autonomous robotic cleaning technologies to help optimize the performance of solar power plants.

The appointment of Eng. Albaraa Althagafi as Chief Technology and AI Officer forms part of Desert Technologies’ broader strategy to expand the use of AI and integrate it more comprehensively across its business sectors, building on the expertise and practical applications the company has developed in this field. The move reflects DT’s transition from applying AI to specific applications and solutions toward deeper integration across its business and operational ecosystem.

This approach further strengthens the company’s business model, combining its expertise in clean energy and smart infrastructure with advanced digital and engineering capabilities. It also supports its ambition to consolidate its position as a leading Saudi company in the deployment of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies in alignment with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
