UBF: Selection of CBUAE Governor Among the World’s Highest-graded Governors Affirms the UAE’s Leading Position

The UAE Banks Federation (UBF), the sole representative and unified voice of UAE banks, affirmed the significance of the achievements being made by the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) under the chairmanship of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Presidential Court and Chairman of CBUAE, as well as the progress achieved in the  banking and financial sector, strengthening of the UAE’s distinguished position as a leading global financial centre. UBF commended the selection of His Excellency Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of CBUAE, among the world’s highest-graded central bank governors for 2026.

H.E. Abdulaziz Al-Ghurair, Chairman of UBF, said: “The selection of Governor of CBUAE among the world’s highest-graded in the annual Central Bank Governor Report, published by Global Finance magazine, reaffirms the effectiveness of CBUAE’s role in enhancing monetary and financial stability, and the efficiency and resilience of the financial system and consumer protection. The CBUAE’s forward-looking vision and proactive approach have contributed to establishing an enabling regulatory framework for the banking sector to continue its development journey and further consolidate the UAE’s leading position among the world’s leading financial and banking centres.”

H.E. Al-Ghurair commended the CBUAE’s initiatives aimed at maintaining the stability and strength of the sector amid the exceptional circumstances facing the region and the global economy. These include initiatives to enhance resilience, promote Emiratisation, protect digital infrastructure and advance digital transformation, uphold the integrity and soundness of the financial system, and support entrepreneurs, SMEs, and sustainable finance.”

Chairman of UBF reiterated the Federation’s and its member banks commitment to continuing their work under the supervision of the CBUAE to drive continuous development and achieve the UAE’s strategic objectives. H.E. noted that the UAE ranked first globally in trust and confidence in the banking sector, according to the Annual Trust Index, outperforming leading global financial and banking centres for the third consecutive year.
