Dubai, June 2024: Erling Haaland has said Norwegian seafood will continue to be a key part of his diet as he prepares for the start of the new football season in August while revealing he enjoys eating salmon during his visits to the Middle East.

The Norway international and Manchester City striker recently partnered with the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) and spoke glowingly on the positive impact the seafood has had on his body. Following a busy 2023-24 season for club and country, the 23-year-old plans to increase his consumption of salmon so he can be in top shape prior to the start and during the new 2024-2025 campaign.

He said: “It’s no secret that I love Norwegian seafood especially its salmon which I enjoy eating regularly as it’s very nutritious and healthy. With the new football season set to kick off in a few weeks’ time, I will be eating more of the country’s salmon and incorporating its other seafood within my dishes.”

He added: “It was also great to see their variety when I visited the Middle East region previously. This shows how popular the Norwegian seafood is around the world and I enjoyed eating the dishes which had a fuse of Middle Eastern flavour and taste. I cannot wait to try the dishes again soon.”

Haaland’s passion for Norwegian seafood comes at a time where NSC is working towards increasing the value of Norwegian seafood globally. The exports to both the UAE and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) have been increasing year by year and the trend seems to continue.

Between January and May this year, Norway has exported approximately 4 thousand tons of seafood at a value of  NOK 430 million (almost AED 150 milllion) and represents an increase of 8 percent in volume and 7 percent in value.

For KSA, the export is almost 4 thousand tons for the first 5 months, at a value of NOK 390 million (SAR 139 million) – an increase of 15 percent in volume and 23 percent in value.

Salmon was the most popular fish, accounting for 7,169 tonnes while a study showed that 28 per cent of respondents in Saudi ate seafood at least once a week.
