The Biodiversity Gems Programme Enhances Youth Awareness of Environmental Sustainability and Biodiversity in Oman

Muscat, 28 January 2026:

Sponsored by the British Embassy Muscat, Outward Bound Oman launched the first cohorts of the Biodiversity Gems Programme, an initiative aimed to increase youth awareness of environmental sustainability and biodiversity in the Sultanate of Oman. The programme targets young people aged 14 to 25.

The programme is one of the key outcomes of the Oman: The Jewel of Arabia exploratory expedition, conducted in early 2025 where members of the Outward Bound Oman’s team joined as expedition members. The expedition explored Oman’s diverse natural environments and strengthening understanding of the link between biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

Designed to engage Omani youth in hands-on environmental learning, the programme offers a three-day immersive experience in nature, combining discussions, interactive activities, and awareness sessions focused on local flora and fauna. Participants also take part in outdoor field activities such as hiking and camping, in addition to individual reflection sessions in natural settings.

Support from the British Embassy in Muscat underscores its continued commitment to youth development and environmental education in Oman. Since its establishment in 2009, Outward Bound Oman has reached more than 30,000 participants through programmes that focus on youth skill development in line with Oman Vision 2040.
