WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury visited a number of local gymnasiums across Dubai with the ‘Gypsy King’ meeting fitness enthusiasts, speaking to fans and posing for photographs.
Fury took time out of his family holiday in a bid to give something back to the local boxing community to thank them for their continued support and acknowledge the efforts being made in Dubai to elevate the profile of the sport.
First stop for the undefeated star was Round 10 in Al Quoz, where he was greeted by cheering fans and people engaging in their daily workouts, and from there it was on to the MTK Strong MMA Gym, also in Al Quoz, followed by TK MMA & Fitness, in Media City, with Fury receiving a brilliant reception in both venues.
Fury was joined by his stablemate and former world champion Joseph Parker, who he trains with regularly, while local influencer Money Kicks also sat down with the champion at MTK Strong MMA Gym, where a “WELCOME HOME TYSON” banner was stationed above the entrance.
“This is my first visit to Dubai since 2017 and it’s brilliant to see how much boxing has developed in the city during that time, with so many more venues and a huge passion for the sport among locals and residents,” said Fury.
“I’ve had a great time getting out and about, visiting these venues and meeting many people who share my love of the sport. My wife, Paris, has really enjoyed our visit too, it’s been fantastic.
“I know some big boxing events have taken place in Dubai over the course of the past few months, including D4G and Probellum, and Probellum will be hosting two more shows next month which is great to see. I’m hoping to get back out here to attend a fight night at some point in the future.”
The next defence of Fury’s title comes when he faces compatriot Dillian Whyte, with a date and venue for the bout expected to be confirmed soon.
In the meantime, Fury had some words of warning for his upcoming opponent, along with Oleksandr Usyk, who he could potentially face further down the line.
“I can beat Dillian White with any style, even if I put one hand behind my back and one foot off the floor I’d still beat him,” said Fury.
“Usyk? What’s he going to do? Tap dance around me? He didn’t do any damage at all to AJ (Anthony Joshua), and he definitely won’t do any damage to me. I’ll obliterate him. He’s a cruiserweight, a pumped-up middleweight. He was a middleweight in the amateurs, 75 kilos, I was a super-heavyweight at 11 years old.”
