The participants ran across Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Ajman, Sharjah and Dubai before reaching the Khalidiya Palace by Rotana in Abu Dhabi just in time for the 45th National Day festivities.
“The 7EmiratesRun team is back for the fifth year with a new course starting in Hatta and finishing at the known location – Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana, Abu Dhabi. The course has been designed to help support a great cause and provide a different experience to all the volunteers. Raising awareness of a healthy lifestyle and for children in need is an unmeasurable pleasure,” said Wendelin Lauxen, Founder & Director of 7EmiratesRun and Managing Director of DHCC-based German Limbtech.
The 7ER mission is to run for help – charity activity, run for health, and run for fun to promote sports activities, healthy lifestyle and teamwork. Wendelin Lauxen, the director, founder and initiator of the 7 Emirates run, a Guinness World Record holder initiated this charity run to help children who suffer from deformities or amputations. This year he led the team of runners including Scott Williams for the full distance. Full distance runners on some of the selected 7 days, relay team of 6 runners led by Petra Steger full distance, runners and teams for community / social runs or 10km participated on the 7EmiratesRun 5th Edition, in total more than 200 runners overall. The full distance covered 497km in 7 days with an average of 71 km per day across the UAE. The run started on 24th of November 2016 and ended on 30th of November 2016.
The event targeted to raise more than AED 277,000 in donations for the Al Jalila Foundation to help children back on their feet by supporting them with prosthesis or orthosis treatment. The charity run has so far helped more than five children in the UAE in need of long-term care.
Dr Abdulkareem Sultan Al Olama, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation, said: “Over the next 7 days runners will demonstrate their endurance by crossing the seven Emirates. We thank them for their commitment and dedication as they use this exceptional sporting endeavour to raise funds for a greater good. This is a wonderful example of how the community can come together to positively impact people’s lives. Last year, we were able to help a number of children walk again with prosthetic support. This year, we hope to be able to extend that support to many more children in the UAE. There is no greater joy than being able to give the gift of mobility.”
Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, commented on the event: “The UAE’s ambition is to enhance its health, happiness and well-being and sports is integral to this. Sports transcends all barriers and unites people. It’s wonderful to see the community, adults and children, come together to celebrate the UAE through sports.”
Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana has been a part of the run for years and was proud to welcome the runners at the finish line and continue supporting this great cause.
