In line with MBRF’s longstanding vision
Dubai, UAE, August 2026- The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) reaffirmed its commitment to enriching the Arabic language and enhancing its presence across various fields of knowledge by developing and supporting the Arabic dictionary industry, leveraging relevant tools and resources. In this regard, the ‘Alghani Azzahir’ dictionary stands out as a pioneering model that combines authenticity and innovation. It supports intellectual, scientific, and social transformations, offering comprehensive lexicographical content that serves researchers, students, and Arabic language enthusiasts.
Following several years of research, the dictionary was officially launched by MBRF during its participation in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2019. ‘Alghani Azzahir’ is based on a comprehensive scientific vision that dictionaries are much more than just tools of vocabulary. It positions them as critical knowledge references that document the development of language, link meanings to their contexts of use, and enhance the understanding of literary and scientific discourse through precise definitions and carefully curated examples, thus contributing to clarifying meanings and enriching linguistic content.
His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, said: “The dictionary is a result of our longstanding developmental approach aimed at enriching the Arabic language, while keeping pace with contemporary developments shaping the linguistic landscape. ‘Alghani Azzahir’ stands out because the author extracts the words from their roots, and all entries are arranged based on an approved morphological method. It also clearly elucidates all meanings and evidence based on the root, thus establishing a modern linguistic reference that meets the needs of researchers and students while elevating the status of the Arabic language across diverse knowledge domains.”
The dictionary features both classical and modern Arabic vocabulary, including loanwords, foreign words, and neologisms. It also encompasses religious, scientific, technical, and philosophical terms, and pays particular attention to proverbs and collocations. Furthermore, it traces loanwords and foreign words back to their Latin roots, reflecting the evolution of Arabic and its interaction with various fields of knowledge.
The dictionary draws upon a vast linguistic corpus which includes literary texts from different eras, making literary evidence a fundamental facet of its lexicology. It relies on Quranic verses, prophetic traditions, as well as ancient and modern poetry and literature, thus connecting words to their natural context and providing readers with a more nuanced understanding of their meanings and uses.
‘Alghani Azzahir’ also keeps pace with ongoing linguistic developments and modern terminology, based on the idea that dictionaries should continue to reflect scientific and technological transformations, while preserving the authenticity of the Arabic language and its cultural heritage. This further strengthens its role in supporting scientific research, education, and Arabic content creation.
