In line with its efforts to strengthen cooperation with international organisations
Dubai, UAE: A joint high-level delegation representing the Jordanian Military Justice and United Nations (UN) agencies visited Dubai Judicial Institute (DJI) to learn the best practices and the latest developments and trends in training and development. The visit is within the framework of DJI’s efforts to strengthen cooperation with the concerned authorities in different countries and global organisations.
His Excellency Justice Dr Jamal Al Sumaiti, Director General of DJI, welcomed the joint delegation, whereby the Jordanian delegation was led by Military Judge Brigadier General Hazim Al Majali, the Director of Military Justice & State Security Court Attorney General, and included Military Judge Lieutenant Colonel Mwafaq Al Masaeed, the President of the State Security Court, and Military Judge Lieutenant Colonel Jihad Al Afyoni, Head of Training & International Judicial Cooperation. The UN delegation included Judge Dr Hatem Ali, the regional director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and Judge Ali Yunus, Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Expert at the UN headquarters in Vienna.
The visit came as part of DJI’s prestigious position as a regional centre for legal and justice excellence with the aim of showcasing its unique experience in providing judicial and legal institutions in the UAE with qualified human resources equipped with the best professional training. It also sought to talk about the best practices adopted by DJI when working remotely to ensure business continuity, and maintain the health and safety of its employees and other parties, in line with the precautionary measures followed in the UAE to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Al Sumaiti said: “The Jordanian delegation’s visit to DJI comes within a comprehensive programme of annual visits and activities we carry out to ensure cooperation, coordination, and exchange of knowledge and experiences with the relevant institutions in several countries around the world. DJI has become a model for academic excellence and specialised practices, and we can transfer our superior experience to others within cooperative relationships that benefit all parties. We are keen to strengthen our relations with international agencies to support their efforts in reducing cross-border crime, especially drugs, and provide them with best practices to help them perform their tasks in the region and provide support to other countries.”
Al Majali commented: “This visit reflects our keenness to develop and deepen the bonds of cooperation between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the UAE, specifically with regard to the military justice in order to support the continuous development of relations between the governments of the two brotherly countries. We focused on a number of DJI’s successful experiences as well as the internal work systems, and the development they have achieved. Moreover, we had the opportunity to learn about the ‘remote trial’ techniques and its success, which we believe will help us develop our systems in Jordan. We express our admiration for what we have seen, and we hope to continue coordination and cooperation with DJI in all related fields.”
On the other hand, the delegation was briefed on the latest applied practices related to the work of legal practitioners, including remote trial, and the latest technologies employed by Dubai that ensure a successful experience in this field, rising to the highest international levels. Dubai distinguished itself in this field, and was one of the first cities in the world to adopt remote trial through visual communication techniques, which would allow immediate and direct communication with the parties to the lawsuit by sound and image. Thanks to these practices, there is no need for clients to attend personally, thus providing a world-leading experience in serving court sessions remotely, which in turn contributed to strengthening Dubai’s position as a technologically advanced destination with enhanced customer satisfaction and happiness. After the great success, Dubai will continue to employ smart and innovative solutions and technologies, as well as technical tools and media in the work system.
