Elite Agro to Showcase Locally Grown Fresh Produce at WOP 2016

  • New 20ha green house assists in Elite Agro’s supply of 34 SKUs to various sectors
  • High quality local produce satisfies UAE consumers

elite-agro-logoAbu Dhabi: Elite Agro, a leading Abu Dhabi producer and distributor of fresh vegetables and fruits locally and regionally, will participate at the 8th International Perishables Expo Middle East (WOP) 2016, Dubai, UAE. Currently over 80% of fresh vegetables and fruit consumed in the UAE are imported but through innovation and determination, Elite Agro has introduced year-round production of locally grown produce to the UAE market sold under the Elite Harvest brand. Through its existing net house, greenhouse, open field and packing facilities covering 500,000m2, Elite Agro supplied 34 SKUs of fresh vegetables and fruit to retail, wholesale and HORECA markets.

In recent years, Elite Agro’s success in agricultural produce and fresh food distribution has gone from strength-to-strength because of the company’s commitment to quality, policies of innovation and strategic development, and implementation of best-practices in the agricultural sector. One of the successes of Elite Agro is its capability to supply the UAE market with fresh locally produced vegetables and fruit such as tomatoes, eggplants, and capsicums even in the scorching UAE summer. To make this possible, Elite Agro invested in industry-specific distributor technologies such as flow-wrap machines to retain the freshness of produce, maintain shelf life and reduce the chance of waste.

Food waste is a critical issue globally with as much as 50% of food produced on the planet never reaching the consumers’ plate. Elite Agro’s local production, local supply agreements and innovative post-harvest operations help to ensure whatever is produced is consumed. Imagine a world where 50% of the water used to irrigate crops was wasted because of inefficient supply chains, or lack of shelf life.

Elite Agro maintains successful retail partnerships to promote local produce under the Elite Harvest brand. Feedback received by Elite Agro, indicate UAE consumers appreciate the high quality and slightly lower pricing of the local products compared to produce imported from Europe.

Broadening its scope, Elite Agro operates subsidiaries based in Serbia and Morocco. The past summer Elite Agro had some trial shipments of blueberries and cherries from Serbia, but the main vegetable crop were potatoes supplied under contract to PepsiCo for processing, which exceeded production predictions by over 20%. Raspberries will be the first crop to come out of Elite Agro’s Moroccan operation. The yields are expected at more than 12 tonnes per hectare for the Primocane Maravilla and will be sold under contract to the international berryfruit marketing company Driscoll’s.

Strengthening its operations, Elite Agro is now certified to GLOBALG.A.P version 5 for the certification of fruit, vegetables, cereals and forage for the fourth year. Further, the company’s Serbia and Morocco subsidiaries are following processes that will allow improved access to European markets.

Speaking on the motivation to participate at WOP 2016, Peter Ensor, Acting Marketing and Sales Director, said, “We hope to interact with our existing and potential client base to understand market requirements and receive feedback of our products and services. We will display our fresh vegetables, fruit and other fresh products grown here in the UAE, Serbia and Morocco, and the technologies utilized such as flow-wrap for fresh produce distribution.’’

This year’s WOP will host more than 235 exhibitors from 34 countries, and 14 country pavilions, all of which is expected to attract more than 7,000 attendees. The WOP 2016 will run from 13-15 November, 2016 at Halls 5,6, and 7 at the World Trade Centre, Dubai, UAE.
