Dubai, UAE: Fazaa Initiative, the Social Security Fund for the Employees of Ministry of Interior, donated AED1 million to the 100 Million Meals campaign, the first humanitarian campaign of its kind in the Arab world to provide food parcels for disadvantaged individuals and families across 30 countries in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Food parcels are being distributed through an integrated network of partners, comprising Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), the United Nations’ World Food Programme, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment (MBRCH), Food Banking Regional Network, and local food banks and humanitarian and charity institutions in the beneficiary countries.
Fazaa Initiative’s donation contributes to the objective of the 100 Million Meals campaign, which has achieved 100% of its goal – securing 100 million meals worth AED100 million in 10 days.
The campaign embodies Emirati values of solidarity with all the populations of the world, and compassion to extend a helping hand and help them face the challenges of hunger and malnutrition, which doubles during the holy month of Ramadan, a month of giving and blessings.
A Wide-Spectrum campaign
The 100 Million Meals campaign targets 30 countries in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, regardless of race, religion, and geographic location.
The whole world produces enough food to feed 10 billion people annually, but a third of this food goes to waste. Therefore, the 100 Million Meals campaign hopes to encourage, and cooperate in, the development of more effective and realistic solutions to reduce hunger, malnutrition, and poverty.
More than 820 million people are undernourished globally, including 52 million people across the Middle East and North Africa region. Malnutrition contributes to about 45% of deaths in children under-5 years of age and hunger claims a child’s life every 10 seconds. Hunger causes more deaths than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.
Donations to the 100 Million Meals campaign can be made in four ways. First, on the campaign website www.100millionmeals.ae, second, by contacting the campaign call center on the toll-free number 8004999, third, via the designated bank account through Dubai Islamic Bank (AE08 0240 0015 2097 7815 201), and fourth, by sending the word “وجبة” in Arabic or “Meal” in English by SMS on specified numbers via the Du or Etisalat networks in the UAE.
Launched by Lieutenant General His Highness Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, for the Ministry of Interior’s employees as part of the supportive initiatives provided by the Social Security Fund for employees of the Ministry of Interior and UAE government sector, Fazaa Initiative provides a wide and unique range of services designed to support its members and is aimed at developing social interdependence and bonds of solidarity to the highest levels.
