Competition announced today encouraging Saudi artists to showcase their talents and promote the Formula 1® WeRaceAsOne initiative ahead of the pinnacle of motorsport’s debut in Jeddah on December 3rd -5th

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia: The Ministry of Sport, Ministry of Culture and the Saudi Automobile & Motorcycle Federation (SAMF) – Promoter of the 2021 FORMULA 1 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX –  in association with Formula 1®, has today launched its ‘Race Through Art’ Competition. Aimed exclusively at Saudi nationals, artists could have their inspiring artwork displayed on the newest street circuit in F1®– the Jeddah Corniche Circuit – when the pinnacle of motorsport arrives in Jeddah on the weekend of December 3rd -5th this year.

With less than six months to go until the greatest drivers in the world fight for victory at the 2021 FORMULA 1 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX, today’s announcement further increases the anticipation levels on the ground for the first ever F1® race in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – a new and exciting home for the world’s premier motorsport series.

The aim of the competition is to provide a platform for homegrown, creative Saudi talent to showcase their work during the biggest sporting event to be staged in the country this December.

The competition is open to all Saudi nationals over the age of 18, living anywhere in the world – including professional and amateur artists – who want to use the opportunity of the inaugural F1® race in the Kingdom to present their unique vision of this historic sporting occasion to the world.

The three winning entries will see their artwork displayed on one of the three run-off areas each on the Jeddah Corniche Circuit – soon-to-be the longest and fastest street circuit in the world! In addition to having their work exhibited to a global audience of millions, the three winners will also collect a cash prize of 50,000 SAR, 25,000 SAR & 10,000 SAR respectively.

As part of the terms of the competition, all applicants are asked to engage with the unique culture and history of Saudi Arabia as a host country as well as the Formula 1® WeRaceAsOne initiative when creating their entries –with a special focus on demonstrating originality and creativity throughout their work. Formula 1® launched the WeRaceAsOne initiative as a way for the sport to help tackle some of the biggest issues facing motor racing and the wider world. In 2021, the programme has developed into the sport’s ESG strategy to focus in particular on the three main pillars: sustainability, diversity & inclusion, and community.

The winning entries will help further generate an identity unique to the richness of Saudi culture, developing a greater sense of place that both local and visiting fans can connect with whilst quite literally enriching the physical environment of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit with the beauty of the winning artwork on display, infused with the positive and important messaging that shapes the sport’s vital WeRaceAsOne initiative.

Commenting earlier, HRH Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al Abdullah Al Faisal, Chairman of the Saudi Automobile & Motorcycle Federation (SAMF) said: “As we get closer to our inaugural Formula 1 race weekend in Saudi Arabia, the excitement continues to grow. This wonderful and inspiring competition is another fantastic example of how the arrival of F1 can inspire a generation of Saudi men and women to positively engage with this historic event and to present our country and race weekend in the most confident light, whilst also ensuring that we acknowledge the tremendously positive work being done by Formula1’s essential WeRaceAsOne initiative.

We actively urge our nation’s visual artists – amateur or professional, old or young – to enter this competition and present their own singular take on what the occasion of F1 racing in Saudi Arabia means to the country as a whole. Our race stands as a message of unity and inclusivity and this competition will be a further example of that.

We can’t wait to see all the amazing entries and show the winning designs off to the whole world later this year.”

Additional Information:

Scheduled to make its F1 debut on December 3rd – 5th 2021, the 2021 FORMULA 1 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX will mark its arrival in style with the newest circuit in the sport estimated to see drivers reach average speeds of 250km/h, making it the fastest street circuit in the world – and in the top 5 fastest F1 circuits altogether!

Indeed, F1’s superstars are projected to reach top speeds of up to 322km/h as they race towards Turn 27.

Featuring no less than 27 corners, the Jeddah Corniche Circuit stretches to 6.175km in length, making it the second longest circuit on the current F1 calendar behind the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and the longest street circuit in the sport.

Additionally, 3 consecutive sections of the circuit have been marked out as potential DRS Zones, ensuring plenty of overtaking opportunities for the drivers throughout the race.
