The decision aligns with labour market dynamics and flexible working options
Abu Dhabi, UAE – August 2026 –The General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA)
has announced the extension of its pension coverage for UAE national part-time employees in
government and private sector entities under UAE federal pension laws. The initiative aligns with
evolving labour market dynamics, supports flexible on-site, remote, and hybrid work models, and
promotes financial security and stability for all citizens.
Under the new regulatory framework, part-time employees will be registered in the GPSSA pension
system if they work between eight and 32 hours per week or one up to four days per week —
equivalent to 20% to 80% of full-time hours. Their period of service and pension benefits will be
determined proportionately based on their actual working hours and the approved contribution
calculation salary for each applicable period.
GPSSA also clarified that employers are responsible for registering UAE national part-time
employees and updating the data on the Ma'ashi platform for full-time insured employees who
transition to a part-time contract.
GPSSA highlighted that providing robust social security across diverse employment contracts gives
insured individuals greater flexibility to balance professional responsibilities with personal
commitments, whether for personal reasons, continuing education, or family care. GPSSA also
confirmed that the part-time pension framework ensures continuity of service when individuals move
between full-time and part-time roles, supporting their long-term financial and social well-being.
