Two hospitals under the Medcare umbrella have been recognised by the International Hospital Federation as part of its Beyond the Call of Duty for COVID-19 programme.
Medcare Hospital – Al Safa and Medcare Women and Children Hospital were recognized at the International Hospital Federation Beyond the Call of Duty for COVID-19 Programme for its COVID-19 response action plan, along with over 100 hospitals from 28 countries.
Medcare’s “Together! Can curb the COVID-19 challenge” received the recognition badge after a thorough review of an international review committee consisting of 16 experts from the healthcare industry.
Dr. Shanila Laiju, Chief Executive Officer at Medcare Hospital Al Safa, Dubai, and Medcare Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital, said: “Our top priority at Medcare has always been patient care of the highest standards. While Covid-19 has been demanding changes to the way hospitals offer treatment, we are incredibly proud of how our staff adapted to the new pace and with efficiency. Medcare has always kept up-to-date on medical news, technologies and advancements, and our clinical excellence and compassionate care service has helped us to manage this pandemic.”
Medcare’s principles of preparedness and contingency planning are key to the medical provider’s successful management of this unprecedented demand for healthcare. Extensive public health infrastructure in the UAE has also enabled a fast coordinated response, particularly in the domains of early screening, effective methods for isolation and quarantine, digital technologies for identifying potential cases and mass mask use.
Dr. Shamsa Abdulla Ali bin Hammad, Chief Operating Officer at Medcare Women & Children Hospital, said: “We feel truly honoured to be awarded this global recognition for our patient care during this pandemic. Throughout the first wave of Covid-19, our emergency departments remained available to everybody requiring critical care, in addition to the full team being on hand to provide support for treatment and testing.”
Recognized hospitals of the International Hospital Federation Beyond the Call of Duty for COVID-19 Program are featured in an extensive international media campaign honouring hospitals and health service providers worldwide in their fight against COVID-19.
IHF Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lavater said the outstanding work in response to the pandemic is transforming the future of healthcare. “One of our motivations in creating this recognition program is to highlight the diversity and agility of the hospital industry in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic forced hospitals to develop, implement and adopt new ways to operate and many of these changes have accelerated positive transformation in the delivery of care.”
The International Hospital Federation Beyond the Call of Duty for COVID-19 Program is sponsored by the Japanese Red Cross Ashikaga Hospital – Nikken Group and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA).
