Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: The project for the design, engineering and procurement of the new 400,000m3/day Jubail II seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plant by SEPCO Electric Power Construction Corporation (SEPCO III) has been awarded to Metito, a global leader and provider of choice for total intelligent water management and alternative energy solutions. The Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) will commission this state-of-the-art SWRO project worth US$132M (SAR495M).
The Jubail II SWRO plant is a 24 months project and a commissioning date set for February 2022. The plant will serve Jubail city in the Eastern province of KSA, home to the largest industrial city in the world.
Commenting on this project the Deputy Governor for Technical Affairs & Projects, SWCC, Eng. Sharekh Ibrahim Al-Sharekh said, “The Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) is the world’s largest producer of desalinated water and holds the Guinness World Record for the same. We generate potable water from various plants across the east and west coasts of the Kingdom and transport the water to end users through advanced transportation systems feeding multiple regions and cities.”

Metito has been subcontracted by SEPCO III, after winning a competitive tender for the design, engineering, procurement, supervision of installation, commissioning of the plant including process, mechanical, electrical, and automation systems [using innovative technologies such as a state-of-the-art Distributed Control System (DCS). Metito’s scope is fast-tracked with the scope mandated to be concluded in 14 months.

The Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) is a Saudi Government Corporation responsible for the desalination of seawater and supplying various regions in the Kingdom with desalinated water. The corporation was established by royal decree dated 20/08/1394 H, corresponding to 07/09/1974 H, as an independent government corporation. The main aim for SWCC is to consolidate the natural water resources in various regions and cities of the Kingdom where there are severe fresh-water shortages, through the process of desalination. One of the main strategic goals for the implementation of these plans is to build a number of desalination plants, along with support facilities in regions suffering from shortages of fresh water supplies, based on the outcomes of technical feasibility studies.
