At SouthLinks Estate, legacy and nature were the inspiration for the whole design. Plontur, a Metro Manila-based nature-led design studio, was commissioned to design the landscape for a residential estate conceived by its developer as a multi-generational legacy: a high-end community where biodiversity, wellness, and long-term livability would shape daily life across decades.
The studio’s approach starts by reading the place: what the climate, the planting, the water, and the people require, and letting those answers structure the design. The result is a landscape where ecology, community, and identity develop together, rather than as separate layers applied to a site.
The project’s recognition by the Luxury Lifestyle Awards for Best Sustainable Landscape Architecture Design in the Philippines reflects that long-view approach: design that prioritizes what a place will become, not just how it appears on opening day.
Horizontal by design
Based in Manila, Philippines, Plontur designs horizontal, nature-centred environments – residential estates, resorts, agriculture-led developments, and master-planned communities where the land sets the terms. The studio’s focus is not the vertical project. It is the ground itself: how it holds biodiversity, how it carries community, and how it ages across generations.
Architecture, when it enters the work, sits inside the landscape rather than over it. The studio’s disciplines – master planning, landscape architecture, sustainability advisory, design consultancy, and architectural collaboration – all move toward a single outcome: places that live, grow, and hold their character across decades. Designing for generations
The client brief asked for a high-end, sustainable estate that would serve as a benchmark for future residential developments in the Philippines – anchored by wellness, community, and multi-generational use. Plontur translated this into five guiding elements that shape the estate’s character:
- Towering trees as living anchors, expressing longevity and strength.
- Durable hardscape that provides lasting function and structure as it ages.
- Artistic elements that act as markers of memory and shared experience.
- Flexible open spaces that allow the estate to adapt as needs change over time.
- Multi-generational areas that support play, gathering, and interaction across age groups.

Sustainability built into the structure
Approximately 80% of the estate’s landscape composition is native species, supporting ecological integrity, biodiversity, and long-term resilience while reducing maintenance demand and creating a stronger fit with the site’s natural conditions.
Water management is built into the design rather than added on. An integrated canopy feature above the planter-box seating areas provides shade while functioning as a rainwater catchment system, collecting and redirecting water for landscape irrigation. The estate uses a hybrid manual and automated irrigation strategy to optimize water consumption and reduce long-term operational demand.
Passive design strategies like natural ventilation and shading by broad-canopy tree species, help reduce energy demand and mitigate heat gain at the microclimatic level. Material selections prioritize durability, safety, and low maintenance. Each system is chosen for what it will still be doing in twenty years.

Every Plontur engagement begins with Discovery – a structured conversation that examines how clients live, what they value, how spaces are actually used, and what experiences should be supported.
