| 35 National Federations already committed as Hudayriyat Island prepares to welcome 4,000+ athletes from 13 – 22 November.
The largest Emirati team in multisport history set to represent the UAE. One island. One championship village. One 10-day festival of world-class sport, entertainment, music and family experiences. Abu Dhabi, UAE – Wednesday August 2026: Preparations for the 2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships Abu Dhabi have reached a major milestone, with organisers unveiling spectacular race routes and confirming growing international participation as momentum builds towards one of the world’s largest multisport events. Organised by World Triathlon, the official governing body for the sport of triathlon worldwide, and hosted on Abu Dhabi’s Hudayriyat Island by Modon, this year marks the first-ever edition of the Championships to be held in the Middle East and North Africa. Taking place from 13 – 22 November 2026, the Championships will welcome over 4,000 athletes from across the globe to compete for world titles across six multisport disciplines:
More than 35 National Federations have already confirmed their participation, including teams from Great Britain, the United States, Australia and Brazil, while the UAE is set to field its largest-ever team, with more than 160 athletes already confirmed and qualification continuing for both residents and Emirati athletes. With the official race routes now revealed and travel packages available, preparations have moved from planning to delivery as the countdown to November gathers pace. Designed as a single-island championship destination, every race will start, transition and finish at 321 Sports on Hudayriyat Island, creating one connected Championship Village where athletes, supporters and spectators can experience ten days of world-class racing, entertainment and community activity together. The official race routes showcase a side of Abu Dhabi that many international competitors will not expect. Across the six championship disciplines, athletes will race through turquoise waters surrounding Hudayriyat Island, uninterrupted coastal roads, purpose-built cycling and running tracks, technical mountain bike trails and trail running routes. Some events will also cross the iconic Hudayriyat Bridge, offering panoramic views across Abu Dhabi’s coastline and skyline. These unique race environments reinforce Hudayriyat Island’s position as one of the region’s leading destinations for sport and active lifestyles – offering a rare combination of sporting infrastructure and landscapes capable of hosting all six championship disciplines within a single destination. The 10-day festival of multisport begins with an expanded opening weekend, featuring the return of the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) Abu Dhabi, which will now be staged alongside the Multisport Championships following its postponement earlier this year. Complementing the elite racing, the programme will also include community races for children aged 4–15 years, creating opportunities for the next generation of multisport athletes to be part of the Championships. The schedule includes:
Racing will be complemented by a festival atmosphere across Hudayriyat Island with the soon-to-open Velodrome Abu Dhabi serving as a spectacular centrepiece of the Championship Village, community activities, entertainment and live concerts at Surf Abu Dhabi – to be announced in the coming months. Antonio Arimany, President of World Triathlon said: “The 2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships Abu Dhabi extends our long-standing relationship with Abu Dhabi – a spectacular host nation which has been part of our World Triathlon calendar for many years. The World Triathlon Multisport Championships are one of the most anticipated events on our global calendar, and Hudayriyat Island provides a championship setting unlike any other. With world-class infrastructure, spectacular race routes and a unique stay-train-race-relax offering, it is the ideal venue for athletes to perform at their best, while giving families, supporters and spectators the opportunity to experience every moment of the Championships together. Beyond the racing itself, athletes and visitors will enjoy everything Hudayriyat Island has to offer – from beaches, hospitality and dining to entertainment and outdoor experiences – making this not only an exceptional World Championship, but a truly memorable destination to visit. November promises to be an exceptional experience, and we’re delighted to see such strong interest already from National Federations around the world.” Jamie Dean, Executive Director of Sports at Modon, which operates Hudayriyat Island’s world-class sports and leisure destinations, added: “The 2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships will be one location, one global community, one unforgettable World Championship experience – and we are excited to welcome athletes, fans and supporters to Hudayriyat Island this November. “Hudayriyat creates a unique opportunity for a championship experience with the athlete at its heart. From the event village and race starts to recovery, dining and entertainment, everything is within walking distance, allowing athletes to focus on what matters most – competing, connecting and enjoying the atmosphere. “The race courses will also surprise many athletes. From swimming in the turquoise waters surrounding Hudayriyat Island to racing across the iconic Hudayriyat Bridge, purpose-built cycling routes, mountain bike trails and coastal running courses with uninterrupted sea views, they showcase a side of Abu Dhabi that many people simply won’t expect.” With qualification continuing across the globe and official travel packages now available, organisers remain on track to welcome athletes, teams and supporters from more than 45 countries for ten days of elite and age-group racing, unforgettable experiences and a celebration of multisport on Hudayriyat Island.
