Multidisciplinary inpatient rehabilitation program supports recovery after orthopaedic injury and prolonged immobility
Abu Dhabi, UAE,June 2026 – SEHA, a subsidiary of PureHealth, the largest healthcare group in the Middle East, has announced a remarkable recovery at SEHA’s STMC Rehabilitation Hospital, where a 40-year-old patient regained mobility and independence following a severe orthopaedic injury that had left him bed-bound and unable to perform basic daily activities.
The patient sustained a right tibial plateau fracture after a fall, which required surgical treatment. Upon admission to SEHA’s STMC Rehabilitation Hospital, he was experiencing severe pain, significant restriction in knee movement, and was unable to stand or walk independently.
The patient underwent three months of intensive inpatient rehabilitation delivered by SEHA’s STMC’s multidisciplinary team, including physiotherapists and occupational therapists. The program focused on managing pain, reducing swelling, improving joint mobility, strengthening muscles, balance and walking training, and regaining independence in daily activities. Hydrotherapy sessions and weekly group rehabilitation activities were also incorporated to support physical recovery while fostering motivation and peer interaction among patients and staff.

When the patient arrived, he was completely bed-bound, in severe pain, and unable to perform basic daily activities. Over the course of intensive rehabilitation, he made remarkable progress. His pain resolved, his knee mobility improved to near full range, and he regained full independence in personal daily care. This outcome reflects both the patient’s determination and the coordinated efforts of our multidisciplinary rehabilitation team.”
