UAE – The next time the Rolex SailGP Championship fleet lines up, it will be in Dubai – with a season’s work on the line for seven teams chasing one place.
Two months after the Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix | Geneva, all 13 national teams return to the water at the Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix presented by DP World on November 21-22, 2026. It is the penultimate event of the season, and the last stop before the title is decided.
One week later, only the top three teams on the season leaderboard will contest the winner-takes-all race for the Championship and US$2 million. The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix 2026 Season Grand Final presented by Abu Dhabi Sports Council takes place on November 28-29, at Emirates Palace for the first time.
Two of those places are gone. The BONDS Flying Roos, three-time SailGP champions, lead the standings on 94 points. Los Gallos, the 2024 champions, joined them by winning in Geneva – their third event win of the season – and sit on 78.
That leaves one – and it changed hands in Geneva. Artemis SailGP Team, in its debut season, arrived one point behind the U.S. SailGP Team and left three ahead, moving into third on 59 points.
It could have been more. Artemis took four points from the weekend while the U.S. scored none, racing with Martine Grael drafted in days before the event after driver Taylor Canfield broke his collarbone.
“Artemis will be the ones kicking themselves,” said SailGP commentator Stevie Morrison. “Having said that, you’d rather leave the event in the top three, so compared to the United States and Emirates GBR, they’ve got the box seat right now.”
The U.S. sits on 56 points. Emirates GBR, who lifted their first Rolex SailGP Championship title in Abu Dhabi last year, is three further back on 53 and at risk of missing the chance to defend it.
Artemis driver Nathan Outteridge is taking nothing for granted. “The points are still super close and there’s still two events to go – the Middle East is light like it was in Geneva, so we still need to improve our sailing skills if we want to get into the Final,” he said.
“You can see that the top two teams are the top two teams for a reason – we’d love to be racing them in Abu Dhabi but we’ve got a bit of work to do still.”
Dubai’s conditions will play their part. November typically brings flat water and temperatures around 30 degrees – ideal for foiling and kinder on the flight controllers keeping the F50s in the air. But if the breeze is light, as some teams expect, crews will race with bigger wings and fewer athletes on board, leaving each of them covering more than one job.
The city-side racecourse adds its own test. It is a tight one, which keeps the fleet close together and puts a premium on the strategists reading the traffic around them. A sea wall alongside the course can also split the breeze, leaving it stronger at the bottom of the course than at the top.
With 10 points for an event win and 20 still available across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the door is not yet shut on the chasing pack. DS Automobiles SailGP Team France (46), NorthStar (45), ROCKWOOL Racing (40) and Switzerland (39) all remain in mathematical contention.
For four teams, the Grand Final is already out of reach. Germany, Red Bull Italy, Mubadala Brazil and the Black Foils, Grand Finalists in 2024, can no longer make the top three.
Dubai carries its own prize too. The event winner takes US$400,000 from a US$800,000 purse, and the two teams already have every reason to race for it. The BONDS Flying Roos have led and lost the Final at each of the last two events, beaten in Geneva by a Los Gallos crew that now heads to the UAE with momentum.
Fans at Mina Rashid will see 13 identical F50 catamarans racing just meters from the shore at speeds of more than 100 km/h, with a winner-takes-all Final to settle the event on Sunday.
