The 2nd Annual MENA Orthopaedics Discussed Latest Advances in Orthopaedic Surgeries

Dubai: More than 300 orthopedic surgeons gathered over the last two days for the MENA Orthopaedics Congress which is supported by the UAE ministry of health and prevention and a number of leading medical authorities and associations including American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Indian Orthopaedic Association, Indonesian Orthopaedic Association, Sudanese Orthopaedic Surgeons Association and Bahrain Medical Society and supported by the American Hospital of Dubai.

The meeting which has concluded today, had more than 30 speakers and researchers presenting topics on different orthopedic areas such as joint surgeries, spine, infections and tumors in bones, and knee surgeries.

Some of the local experts who joined the meeting are: Dr. Tarek Abuzakuk, Dip in Sports Medicine, CCT, Chief of Orthopaedics Department, American Hospital Dubai, UAE, presented a paper on Osteochondritis dissecans. It a common joint disorder in which cracks form in the cartilage and the underlying bone, Dr. Samih Tarabichi, a well-known Emirati surgeon, discussed the new trends in total knee replacements, which are very common due to the prevalence of advanced osteoarthritis and growth of deformity in older population and Dr. Sean Dudeney, MB, BCh, BAO, MMedSci, FRCSI, MCh, FRCS(Tr&Orth), Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Al Rahba Hospital, UAE, discussed the Management of metastatic bone disease, which is the third common location for metastasis, after the lung and liver.
