The use of social media in the UAE is closely regulated and is covered by The Cyber Crimes Law of 2017 and the UAE Penal code of 1987. The laws makes it an offence to breach someone else’s privacy (as an example by taking their photo and publishing it) as well as making it an offence to say any defamatory against any individuals online. Alongside the protections of individuals the laws also ensure that no content that is in any way contrary to morality and good conduct is published.
