walk-for-lifeAbu Dhabi: Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana, Beach Rotana and Park Rotana hotels from Abu Dhabi will embark on another Walk for LIFE activity on November 19, 2016. The event is organized in collaboration with Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) that continues to increase public awareness about diabetes and promotes prevention.

According to International Diabetes Federation, four out of ten adults with diabetes in the Middle East and North Africa are undiagnosed. The number of people between the ages of 20-79 with diabetes in this region was estimated by 35.4 million, by 2040, this will rise to 72.1 million. There were over 1 million cases of diabetes in UAE in 2015 among a population of 9. 2 million; about 19 per cent of the population. This event has an objective of increasing public awareness and ensure early diagnosis of type 2 diabetes for reduction of collateral complications such as blindness, heart diseases, kidney failure and death.

Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana and its sister properties are honoured and proud to organize, for the second year in a row, this special Diabetes prevention event. This walk’s aim is to encourage people to act today towards changing their lifestyle and eating habits to decrease the rise in diabetes, which has become a national priority concern in UAE and the whole world. Last year’s walk was a big success with more than 300 people participating.

From 10:00 am until 12:00 noon, colleagues from Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana, Beach Rotana and Park Rotana hotels along with Sheikh Khalifa Medical City’s staff will walk a return trip from Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana to the Heritage Village (UAE flag) and back. The event will include a panel of Diabetes’ experts from SKMC who will conduct complimentary diabetes testing while educators and dieticians will provide personalized advice and support, with healthy snacks displayed.
