Dubai, UAE, SEPTEMBER 2026: As the UAE’s automotive landscape continues to evolve, Oakdale Auto Dubai, a third-generation Canadian family-owned garage operating in Dubai for more than a decade, has shared insights into changing motorist behaviour based on its experience servicing more than 15,000 vehicles.

Among the strongest patterns observed is the growing importance of trust. Oakdale reports that approximately 95% of recommended work is approved quickly by customers, reflecting the level of confidence established through clear explanations, transparent inspections and straightforward advice.

The observations reflect wider changes across the region. A 2025 Middle East automotive consumer study found that 33.99% of respondents identified routine maintenance as their most frequently used after-sales service, while 35.19% were willing to pay for routine maintenance packages. The research also highlighted unclear pricing and lengthy repair times among key consumer concerns.

Transparency Is Becoming as Important as Price:

While cost remains important, Oakdale has observed that customers increasingly want to understand what they are paying for, why a repair is required and what options are available before approving work.

According to the garage, as many as 90% of customers initially have limited understanding of what is happening mechanically with their vehicle, making clear communication an increasingly important part of the service experience.

This aligns with wider industry developments. In April 2026, the Dubai Corporation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade highlighted service quality, transparency, fair pricing and informed consumer choice among priorities for strengthening Dubai’s vehicle-maintenance sector.

Tony, Founder of Oakdale Auto Dubai, said: “Customers today ask considerably more questions than they did when we started. They want to understand what has failed, why it needs attention and exactly what they are paying for. We see this as a positive shift because a better-informed customer ultimately creates greater transparency and accountability across the industry.”

Motorists Are Becoming More Informed and Preventative:

Digital access to automotive information has transformed how customers approach vehicle maintenance, with Oakdale recording an estimated 60% increase in customers communicating with the garage digitally.

At the same time, the business has seen motorists become more proactive about understanding the condition of their vehicles rather than simply waiting for a major problem to occur.

Oakdale supports this approach through a full complimentary vehicle inspection and free report. Customers are shown what has been identified, given professional recommendations and then allowed to decide which work they would like to proceed with.

Tony said this approach is deliberately designed around transparency rather than pressure, allowing customers to understand both immediate concerns and issues that may require attention in the future.

Predictable Pricing and Getting It Right the First Time Matter:

Motorists are also seeking greater certainty around servicing costs. Oakdale offers straightforward oil and service packages covering up to 10,000 km, priced at AED 295 for four-cylinder vehicles, AED 395 for six-cylinder vehicles and AED 495 for eight-cylinder vehicles.

Beyond cost, Oakdale has observed increasing concern around the inconvenience of repeat repairs. According to the garage, during a particularly strong month, only around 1–2% of customers return with the same reported fault, while even during a weaker month this figure remains at approximately 5%.

This means that approximately 95–99% of completed repairs do not result in a customer returning with the same reported issue.

Tony added: “The cheapest repair is not necessarily the best value if the customer has to return with the same problem. Increasingly, customers consider the complete experience, from accurate diagnosis and quality of work to communication, turnaround time and confidence in the team looking after their car.”

He added that accountability is equally important: when something does go wrong, owning the mistake and resolving it properly is fundamental to maintaining long-term customer trust.

Convenience Is the Next Expectation:

Convenience is also increasingly shaping customer behaviour, with motorists expecting easier bookings, faster communication, digital quotations and clearer service updates.

Oakdale estimates that digital communication with customers has increased by approximately 60%, reflecting a major shift in how Dubai motorists prefer to interact with workshops.

After 11 years and more than 15,000 vehicles, Oakdale believes Dubai’s motorists are becoming more informed, more questioning and increasingly focused on transparency, preventative care, convenience and long-term value.

For the automotive industry, this signals a shift towards a model where customer loyalty is increasingly earned through clear communication, technical competence, consistency and trust – not price alone.
