DUBAI, UAE — September 2026: Electric and hybrid cars were once viewed as an emerging alternative to conventional petrol vehicles. But as more models enter the UAE market and charging infrastructure continues to expand, one question is becoming increasingly relevant: are electrified vehicles a passing trend, or are they becoming a permanent part of how UAE consumers shop for cars?
New August marketplace data from dubizzle suggests the latter may be taking shape, with a range of hybrid and electric models recording notable increases in consumer interest on the platform.
The latest data shows that interest is not being driven by a single brand or vehicle type. Toyota is attracting strong attention across its hybrid range, while Tesla, BYD and premium European manufacturers are gaining visibility in the EV space.
Hybrids: Familiar Brands, Growing Interest:
Toyota dominated the hybrid models recording the largest increases in ad views during the period, suggesting that hybrid technology is becoming an increasingly established choice for UAE consumers seeking greater fuel efficiency without compromising on familiarity and practicality.
- Toyota Camry: 102,000+ total views, up 25.0%
- Toyota Corolla Cross: 81,000+ views, up 20%
- Toyota Corolla: 53,000+ views, up 35.0%
- Toyota Highlander: 51,000+ views, up 21%
- Toyota Crown: 29,000+ total views, up 54%
The spread of interest across sedans, SUVs and premium models suggests that hybrid demand is no longer limited to a niche group of environmentally conscious buyers. Instead, consumers appear to be considering hybrids alongside conventional vehicles when weighing fuel efficiency, practicality and running costs.
EVs: From Early Adopters to a Wider Choice
The EV market is also becoming more diverse. The Tesla Model Y recorded the highest overall ad-view volume among the EV models analysed, with 88,000+ views, while other models from Tesla, BYD and Audi also recorded increases.
The Audi RS e-tron GT, BYD Seal, BYD Atto 3 and Tesla Model X all saw higher marketplace engagement respectively, highlighting interest across very different price points and vehicle categories.
EV interest is also broadening beyond a small group of established models. Consumers can increasingly choose between performance cars, family SUVs, mainstream models and newer Chinese EV brands.
So, How EVs and Hybrids Are Finding Their Place in the UAE Car Market:
The latest dubizzle data points towards a market that is becoming more established rather than fading away.
Dubai’s wider ecosystem is moving in the same direction. The number of EVs in the emirate reached 47,944 by the end of 2025, up from 37,486 a year earlier, an increase of almost 28%. By the first quarter of 2026, Dubai’s EV Green Charger network had also expanded to 2,223 charging points, as reported by DEWA.
The growth in infrastructure is important because it addresses one of the practical considerations that has historically influenced EV adoption. At the same time, the growing availability of hybrid models gives consumers an alternative for those who want greater fuel efficiency without moving fully away from petrol.
Sherif Magdy, Director of Sales at dubizzle Cars, said:
“What’s changing in the UAE is not simply the number of electric and hybrid vehicles available, but the way consumers are considering them. They are increasingly being evaluated alongside conventional petrol cars rather than as a separate category. Our latest marketplace activity shows that consumers are exploring a much wider range of electrified models, from familiar hybrid SUVs and sedans to newer EV brands and high-performance electric vehicles. This suggests that electrification is becoming part of the mainstream car-buying conversation, although the right choice remains highly dependent on each driver’s lifestyle, budget and priorities.”
The New Question for UAE Car Buyers:
The data suggests the debate is moving beyond “EV or petrol?”
For some drivers, a hybrid may offer the balance of fuel efficiency and familiarity they are looking for. For others, an EV may now make sense as charging infrastructure expands and the range of available models grows.
For the UAE’s used-car market, this creates an increasingly interesting landscape: consumers have more powertrains, brands and price points to compare than ever before.
The data suggests the conversation is moving beyond whether electrified vehicles have a place in the UAE market, towards how large a role hybrids and EVs will play in the future of mobility.
