Dubai: Eco-Structures International was awarded the regional Gold Innovation Medal, sponsored by China State Construction, at last month’s 2019 MEED Projects Awards, in association with Mashreq. At the start of the ceremony, Eco-Structures had received two national awards for the UAE Sustainability Medal and Education Project of the Year (Dubai). When the announcement for the Innovation Medal was made, the regional judges informed attendees of the surprising decision to retrospectively confer upon Eco-Structures the national Innovation Medal and declared them to be the regional winners. Taking home four MEED awards was a unique success for the up and coming force in this region’s construction industry.
As explained by MEED, “MEED judges realized that one of our sustainability national winners have also been incredibly innovative and added the project for Dubai American Academy to this category so therefore we now have seven finalists for this award.” Eco-Structures took home the win for the DAA project, beating six other impressive entrants in the category.
According to MEED, the Innovation Medal was a new addition to the traditional categories. “With the drive to innovate and increase productivity, innovation has been a strong theme and for that reason we have introduced special awards this year to recognize sustainability and innovation. These themes are absolutely critical to our economy today. Harnessing the latest data and digital technologies empowers us to be more efficient and to be more effective and will help reduce our carbon footprint and protect and sustain our environment.”

The only awards programme recognising excellence for completed projects in the GCC, MEED Projects Awards honoured national winners from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Kingdom of Bahrain, Kuwait, Sultanate of Oman, and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) in ceremonies held in Dubai. UAE had the most regional winners with seven, followed by Oman with four. Saudi and Bahrain had three winners each, while Kuwait had one regional awardee
